I'm five feet tall. I'm curvy. I've got a short torso. I've been a member of the "I Hate My Body Anonymous" group for many, many years. I've always struggled with maintaining a consistent workout routine because I get bored easily and I'm never motivated to start. I've always struggled with food because I'm an extremely picky eater. My weight is constantly fluctuating and some of the foods I eat make me feel bloated on a regular basis. For the past few weeks I've been working to create a better workout routine. My current routine is:
Sunday: n/a
Monday: Yoga/Pilates Fusion class (1 hour)
Monday: Yoga/Pilates Fusion class (1 hour)
Tuesday: n/a
Wednesday: n/a
Thursday: Zumba class (1 hour)
Friday: Soccer every other week (90 minutes)
Saturday: Pilates (1 hour), Zumba (1 hour)
After reading about Jennifer Love Hewitt's struggle with weight and overall body image in this week's People Magazine, I felt inspired. She's short like I am, so I take notice of how she overhauls her body more than others because I can relate to her body type. She mentioned that the first step of changing her body was to stop caring so much about what other people thought and start making the changes for herself. Though I don't have the luxury of being able to hire a personal trainer for regular sessions, I can certainly learn from her routines. I'm thinking of changing up my routine to include the elliptical and weights:
Sunday: Elliptical (50 minutes), weights (20 minutes)
Monday: Yoga/Pilates Fusion class (1 hour), weights (20 minutes)
Monday: Yoga/Pilates Fusion class (1 hour), weights (20 minutes)
Tuesday: Elliptical (50 minutes), weights (20 minutes)
Wednesday: n/a
Thursday: Zumba class (1 hour), weights (20 minutes)
Friday: Soccer every other week (90 minutes)
Saturday: Pilates (1 hour), Zumba (1 hour)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick to it exactly, but I am going to try. I would love to lose 10 pounds by early fall. If I stick with the above plan, I will be able to check 2 items off my 101 in 1,001 (#25 & #54) and will hopefully, start to feel better about what I see when I look in the mirror. While I want to lose weight, I'm sticking to the following rules:
- Deprive yourself of a food you want to eat and you'll over-eat it later. Eat in moderation and make up for the extra calories by adding to the workout plan.
- Do it for me, not for anyone else.
- Continue drinking milk, but limit cheese consumption
- Toning and feeling better is just as good as losing weight. If I'm gaining confidence and liking what I'm seeing and how I'm feeling, the number on the scale is not as significant.
- Take at least 1 day/week off to prevent burnout
